Business - More Like Bus(y)ness!

With November nearly half over, this has been one of the busiest months in a long time for this webmaster (who has been hard at work developing new sites that are on the horizon). When developing a new website, there are many stages of completion; all of the stages must be carefully planned and executed.

The webmaster must first have in mind who the target audience is going to be. Without a clear idea of who the target audience is, the whole project would be hexed from the start. Once the audience is identified, the webmaster needs to next figure out what the website will deliver to the audience - it needs to be known why a web user would go to a particular website. The site can offer social networking, resources, links to niche sites, specific goods or services to be purchased, or most commonly, editorial content.

Next (if all of the work is going to be done by one person) is the design. A website should be designed to be laid out neatly, easily navigated and pleasant to the eye. The design should also fit the theme of the site. For instance, a website dealing with major league baseball news and stats would be best represented by white, green and brown colors; yet, the theme would call for a white background (for easy reading) accented by the greens and browns (which represent the grass field and dirt). To further define the example, the site can be laid out like a table, with the main content taking up about 65% of the screen (to the right, left, or center) with a sidebar containing stats and links; the table can have a brown border and the links can be green. That’s a basic way to approach design.

Once the site is designed and the content is created, the site must be uploaded and promoted. That is what this webmaster has been up against in these recent weeks, and precisely why November is half-over and it has barely been realized!
