Quick Recommendation: Oasis of the Zombies (1982)
Jesus Franco’s Oasis of the Zombies is a relatively low-key film. Released in the early 1980s and following the path paved by George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Lucio Fulci’s Zombie (aka Zombi 2, 1979), Franco’s movie fits very comfortably amongst the long list of European zombie films.
A college student studying abroad is informed of his father’s death. After grieving, he sets out into the desert to find out more about his heritage. He ends up in a desert oasis with several of his friends, seeking a treasure rumored to be worth six million dollars. However, the treasure is guarded by flesh-eating zombies, and they rise when the sun sets…..

Oasis of the Zombies is available under various titles in different versions, but it is Image Entertainment’s DVD that stands out above all other releases. It is best enjoyed in a double feature with Jean Rollin’s Zombie Lake.
Oasis of the Zombies is one of my fave zombie movies. Before I even knew about this movie, I noticed it was part of the Troma 3 pack DVD. Movies include, Blood Hook, Oasis of the Zombies and Blades.
I need to make a correction. The Troma pack I mentioned includes Zombie Island Massacre. I was mistaken. I thought it was Oasis of the Zombies on there.
